    May Budgeting Tip:

We are almost half way thru the year, here are a few things to check and keep in mind to stay on track with your budget. First, double check your withholding and how many dependents you are claiming, this will help ensure a nice refund come next tax season. Next, check your credit card and bank statements for unnecessary subscriptions you may still be paying. Review your pay statement to make sure all deductions are warranted, any questions call your payroll office. While checking your pay statements, make sure your hours and pay are correct, this should be done each pay period, unless you work 40 hours per week regularly. Income and expenses can change over time, now would be a good time to list both to see how much you are in the red or black, so you can adjust as needed. If you need, reevaluate your saving or retirement contributions, remember the goal is to increase not decrease these contributions. If you tried not spending for 30 days or to use cash for 30 days and did not quite make it, no worries, just try again, each time you try you will get a better understanding of your spending habits and have second thoughts before you make a purchase. Getting a hold of your budget and reducing your spending takes time, be patient and soon you will have a better grasp on why you spend and why saving can make you feel better, confident and secure. You can do this, good luck.
