July Budgeting Tip:
Interest on credit cards is high, sometimes 25 to 29%, which can result in things costing 2 to 3 times the original cost. When you are trying to pay off credit cards, try not to use the credit card for additional purchases, this only hinders your efforts to pay off the credit card. If you hold off on some purchases until the credit card is paid off, then you have made progress, because the goal is to pay off the credit card each month, gaining points and not paying interest. While some interest is not avoidable, like on a mortgage or car loan, credit card interest is avoidable. By managing your purchases, try to only charge what you can afford to pay at the end of each month. Yes, that means you may have to put off a purchase for 30 or 60 days, but it is worth it knowing you are not paying any interest on it. The more you pay off the credit card in full, the more trust is built with the credit card company, then they will offer you some payment incentives, like lower interest rates or fee only payments, which you can take advantage of on emergency purchases. Make sure you get a credit card that offers cash back, so you can use the cash as you wish, either put it in your savings or buy groceries or towards a vacation fund. Credit cards can be money makers, you just have to be careful how you use them. You can do this, good luck.
